5/14/2024- Updates and Reminders
IMPORTANT ACTION NEEDED: Next Year Report Form- As we come to Quarter 4 of the school year, we understand a significant amount of our families may be making preparations to move due to permanent change of station orders. In anticipation of this, and in preparation for the next school year, it is important our administrative staff has the best understanding of the enrollment for next school year. Please fill out this survey regarding your child(ren)'s status for next school year, even if you are planning to come back to Nimitz for SY24-25. If you have multiple children, please fill out this survey for each of your Nimitz ES children.
Nimitz Aloha Festival- Aloha Families! Please mark your calendars! On Friday May 24th, Nimitz Elementary is proud to announce the return of our Nimitz Elementary Aloha Festival! Our program, showcasing dances performed by our very own NES students will start at 8:30am at our school's back field. We can’t wait to show you our version of a traditional Hawaiʻian experience.
Audience Viewing- Please be prepared to bring your own seating and sun protection for this event. While there will be plenty of room, there will be limited shade options.
Aupaka Gate- The Aupaka Gate will have an extended opening until 10:30am for the Aloha Festival.
Exit Procedures- We understand that many families may be signing out their children after the performance. Please wait until students return to their classrooms before signing them out from campus.
Summer Program for Nimitz 6th Graders going to Aliamanu- If you have a child attending Aliamanu Middle School as a 7th grader next year, you may be interested in having them attend one of Aliamanuʻs upcoming summer programs. See this flier for details.
After School Care SY24-25: Per last messages regarding the discontinuation of Kamaʻaina Kids at Nimitz Elementary, Nimitz Elementary has been in discussions with the Armed Services YMCA to provide on-site after school care. April Eagles of the Month- We have just added our April Eagles of the Month to the EoM page. Our Eagles of the Month have demonstrated exemplary behavior in the classroom and were recognized in front of their peers on the week of 4/29…Way to SOAR, students!
AVID Page Update- Our NES 6th graders are almost elementary school graduates! They have been researching colleges and career pathways as they envision their future past highschool. After careful research and collaboration, they determined career goals for themselves as well as the steps needed to achieve their goals. Finally, they created an avatar version of themselves using Pixton donned in their graduation robes. See their work on the Nimitz AVID Page. We wish this NES Class of 2024 the best as they move on to bigger and brighter things in middle school and beyond!
Kona Ice 5/15/24- Kona Ice will be setting up shop near the Aupaka Gate tomorrow, after school (@ 1:10pm). If you’d like to expedite purchases with an online order, please go to their online order page.
Library Book Return Notice- Library books have been due back to the library since May 13th, 2024. If your child has lot or misplaced a book, please inform your child’s respective teacher as soon as possible. Books need to be returned or paid for by the end of the school year. Report cards and release packets will be withheld due to any outstanding obligations including unaccounted library books. If you have any questions, please contact april.apana@k12.hi.us
NES PTO Teacher Appreciation Week THANK YOU- Nimitz has amazing teachers, staff and PARENTS. Thank you to all the families that helped! Our Nimitz Ohana is beautiful, the teachers and staff enjoyed being fed Monday and Tuesday and are loving the upgrades to their workroom. Thank you again for those who were able to help and a special shout out to the Ayer’s family for donating a water cooler to our custodians they are so so so happy!!!
Yearbook Distribution - Our Nimitz Yearbooks are officially here! All pre-purchased yearbooks will be sent home with students on Monday, May 20, 2024. If you have not purchased a copy, there are still a few books left, please see the office for more information.
Short Day Swaps in May- Additionally in May, we will be making adjustments to dismissal times in response to events. Please see them below…
5/22 and 5/24- Due to the Aloha Festival, school on 5/22 will dismiss at the normal time of 2:00pm, and school on 5/24 will be dismissed at 1:10pm.
5/29 and 5/30- Due to the last day of school, school on 5/29 will dismiss at the normal time of 2:00pm, and school on 5/30 will dismiss at 1:10pm.
